English Language Challenges

When I discovered that I had to do this course at the beginning I didn't want to do it but then my dad convinced me telling me that at least it would be good for practicing, after a couple of lessons I realized that he was right.
When you don't use an ability for some time you usually lose it, and when that ability is speaking or writing English you are probably in a problem. Even if some people say that English is not completely necessary in life there would always be a subject that requires your knowledge in this language, especially at uni. So for me having this class wasn't a waste of time, I actually enjoyed it.

Being honest some aspects that I should improve about my English are pronunciation, fluently speaking and some grammatical things like words that I don't know. About pronunciation I still confuse some words with similar sounds, but I know that the only way to improve it is practicing with someone that knows how to pronounce them and could correct me. The same happens with fluency.

Outside the class I don't use English as much as I would like. I'm a little bit shy so when I speak it I usually do it with a friend that knows me from years. About reading and listening I try to do it as much I can but with uni it is almost impossible unless about saliva things -.- Anyways I enjoy learning this language, it’s beautiful, maybe even more than Spanish J

What I would change

We've been in this career for almost a year so now we are able to talk about what we think  about the uni  and the career. There is a lot of things that I would change but there are another that I think are nice. I'm going to start with the ones that I would definitely change.
In the past some people told me that odontology wasn't as exigent as other health careers but once in here I discovered that it was REALLY  hard! We had tests almost every day, the study load is huge (and social life disappears a little bit more every day that pass) and that makes everybody really stressed which doesn't guarantee learning all we have to learn. I would like that to change because learning this things ,even in first year, is important for our professional future.
Another subject that I don't like is the space of the faculty. I know we are a small number of student comparing with others faculties but we only have Machu Pichu as a recreational space and (at least for me) having a place were you can rest 5 minutes after a long class or a test is important, almost escential, so I would definetly change that, I don't know where we could get that space but dreaming is free hahaha
From the other side I like how the uni started to include more subjects related with dentistry. I know that in other universities they have to wait a couple of years more than us to start  seeing it from the more practical side, so I feel a little bit fortunate that them. But it wouldn't be bad having more time for practising :)
Here is a picture of Machu where you can
see the abundant amount of grass hahaha

Favorite artist

So today I will write about my favorite artist. Years ago I used to say that I didn't have a favorite artist but it changed 5 years ago with Ed Sheeran <3

Ed Sheeran is a singer, musician and songwritter from England. I first met him in 2011 when the video of  his song "Lego house" came out. At the begining I didn't believe that it was the right video because there appeared Rupert Grint (the actor of Harry Potter's films) so I was really confused about it but after watching it a couple of times I discovered that Ed Sheeran was the another guy in that video and they did it like that in the video on purpose (hahaha). After that I started to listen his music and I fell in love of it.

I love his two faces, the one that shows him as a great musician and composer and the another one that shows Ed's humanity. About the Ed Sheeran related to the music I like his songs and the letters, he has an incredible ability for writting, in fact he usually writes songs for another artists. In his humanity side  he likes visiting childrens in hospitals, animal shelters and things like that.

Ed came last year. His concert was in the "pista atlética del Estadio Nacional" and I had the best opportunity of my life. I went to the concert with my best friend and that was the day that we realized how beautiful and harmonic his voice is.

Summer 2017

Summer is reallly near and I don't have a lot of plans for it (besides dying of heat) so I'm not 100% sure about what I'm going to do but I think this is the closest plan I have for it.
As a person that hates with all her soul the days of intense heat I'll definetly travel away from Santiago to a nicest place with a better weather. Usually my favorite destination for that is the south of Chile (I know that there is hot too but at least is more bearable), especially Puerto Montt or places near to there.
Almost every year I travel at the south with my family so I think we'll do it the next year too. This is a little bit important for us because through the year we can't see each others so much as we want so vacations are perfect for it, and more if we travel to my uncle's house at Puerto Montt.
So if we travel to Puerto Montt the next year we'll do things with my uncle and his wife like going to Frutillar, or to a little beach that is located near from Puerto Montt.
As this year we couldn't visit Chiloe there are possibilities of doing it the next one.

I like traveling with my family but one of my dreams is going to "mochilear" at the south with some friends. The only bad thing about it is that I need money for it, money that I don't have or that I'll have to use the next year for paying all the materials and  dental instruments for my second year at uni :( so I'll have to discard that possibility at least for a while...

SDLE

So, today I will write about "How to survive to SDLE". First you need to know what it is. SDLE is the week where we (odontology students) celebrate the anniversary of the dentistry faculty. It is really fun but some things can get bad for you so some advice may help. Actually I don't know if there is a "rule" that guarantee you being decent at the end of the week but there are a few tips that maybe will help you.

First of all you have to know what all the activities consist on, because perhaps you will be involved in one that sounds cool but maybe in the moment of your participation you will discover that it is little bit different of what you thought. So I really recommend you to read all the rules.

Another tip is don't drink too much at the point of throwing up or faint. You won't pass a good time and neither your friends that will have to take care of you. Drinking there with your friends while you see the competitions is really fun but you need to control yourself a little bit.

As a final tip I would suggest you to avoid doing things that you will regret later. People here is really nice but this is a small faculty so if you did something really naughty (like licking an ass for example) they will remember it for a long time.

Postgraduate studies

Thinking about the future I can't imagine myself studying another career after this one, probably because I like so much odontology, but if I would have enough time and money in the future I'll considere studying veterinarian medicine.

I've always loved animals so if I would have the opportunity to extend my knowledge I would definitely choose this career.

When the most part of the people think about veterinarian medicine they think that it is all about healing dogs or cats but it's more than that. It is about learning how all animal bodies’ work, almost the same than medicine but with a lot of differences between patients.

I would like to study it here in Chile but I would like to specialize abroad, probably in United States because they have more information about different kinds of animals, especially about wild-life animals.

Dreaming a little bit more I would like to travel somewhere in Africa, preferavly in South Africa, where I could work closer to the wild-life fauna. But I definitely wouldn’t work in a zoo or something like that because animals have the same right of living on liberty as us. Nobody likes being in a cage.

I don’t know exactly how I could mix it with odontology (maybe working as wild-life dentist hahaha), but I do know that I'll love doing it :)

My dream job

Hi!, today I am going to write about my dream job.
I've always wanted to work at health system. I realized that when I was like 9 years old. My family has been always related to health, my mom works as nurse and my big sister works as surgeon, so it was really usual hearing stories about weird clinical cases , patients and all that medical stuff that they used to say about their works.
The years went by , hearing them talking about that stuffs,  and I got more  fascinated about medicine but for some reason I knew that I didn't want to be a doctor, so odontology appeared and I decided that I wanted to study that. So here I'm :)
When I finish my career I want to specialize at  pediatric dentistry because I enjoy spending time with children, they are unique and every time I spend time with them I have a good time.
I would like to work at public system because I think that I can help more people there than working at private system, I don't care about how much money I will make.
I don't want to work here in Santiago. I would like to work at the south of Chile, in places like Valdivia or Puerto Montt.
People is right when the say that the most part of specialist work here in Santiago. I know how difficult is to an appointment at regional hospitals, so if I have the opportunity to help them with their dental problems I would do so really happy.
But odontology and pediatric dentistry aren't the only "passions" that I have in my life. Beside my eternal love for the art I  have another love. Animals <3.
I've always love animals, dogs, rabbits, birds, cows, all of them. The only reason because I'm not studying veterinarian medicine is because seeing animals suffering hurts me a lot (even in the movies). As I don't want to see animals suffering I would like to help them in my free time with the basic things such as food, a place to rest or sterilizing surgeries.
There is like 101% possibilities that I will end up adopting all the animals that I will help, so I'm going to have a big backyard for all of them.
(How could you just ignore this face----------->)

My hobby :)

My favorite hobby has always been painting and drawing.

I started painting and drawing since I was really young (I can't remember when). As every child I started with really awful drawings  that didn't had a lot of sense, but I really enjoyed doing it and my parents encouraged me to keep doing it. They like my drawings a lot. They keep a lot of them in folders.

As the years passed I started to draw and paint better (or that was what I thought). My family always told me that I had talent for it, so they began to foment this hobby buying me a lot of painting implements like oils, brushes and so many different pencil colors (and I fell in love of them <3). Until this point I only painted because I liked it but after the last years in the school I started doing it because it really helped me.

When I became older I realized that I didn't had so much time for painting the things that I wanted to do. I prioritized  the study and stopped painting :c. After a couple of months with that routine I got really bored so I decided that I must continue doing so.
As I still hadn't enough time for it I started painting and drawing small things. But for me it wasn't enough.

Last year I discovered the mandalas. I thought they were so beautiful that I bought a lot of mandala's books and started to paint them every time I was stressed. It worked so well that I began to draw them by myself.

Here is one of my favorites drawings :)

Favorite holiday!

In my life I have been to many places, specially in the south of Chile, but I'd never been out of the country until two years ago when I traveled with the most of my classmates for a study trip to Camboriu, Brasil.

We planned it for a long time, thinking about the hotels  and the places we could visit. After a lot of disscusions about it we decided travel to Camboriu for nine days.

Meanwhile the days passed we got more exited about it, we even did a calendar with the days left for the trip.

Once there we started a tour around Florianopolis state, were Camboriu is placed, and we saw a lot of things like a little sambodromo that is placed there. Then we arrived to the hotel were we slept for ten nights.

Days passed and we did a lot of tours around Camboriu. Definetly my favorite place was Laranjeiras's beach because it is placed next to a big mountain that was full of exotics plants and animals. I  love nature so being in a place like that was  a gift. Actually I spend my birthday there so it was like a real gift c:

We visited others beaches (an island included) and amusements parks that were amazing too but when I think in this trip I can't stop thinking about that beach and how beautiful it was.

For me it's my favorite holiday because I had an amazing time with my friends, I would never forget it (at least I hope not forget it haha)

A country I'd like to visit

I'd love to visit a lot of countries. If I could I would travel all around the word, but probably one of the first countries where I would travel is Finland. This is a Nordic country and it is located near to Sweden and Norway, so it's really cold there. Maybe a lot of people prefers to be in a warmest place but I really enjoy being in cold places like this one.

Honestly I didn't know anything about this country until one of my friends went to an exchange there. When she came back she told me that the people from there were really kind and the touristic places were amazing so I decided that I must travel there to see it with my own eyes.
Even if the native language, the Finnish, is really hard to learn, you can perfectly communicate with English until you learn the basic things.
One of the things that I must see are the aurora borealis. It appears every night between September and March in the north of Finland and for about 10-20 nights in the south. People that had been there said that it's an incredible show and my friend told me that it was a moment that she will never forget, so it must be really amazing.

If I visit Finland I would do it with my boyfriend because he has never been in any country out of Chile, so I want to show him how beautiful is to learn about another cultures and how different is the world, specially in a country that is so far from here.
